British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up this year's campaign and has decided to continue with her coach for 2026.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four major tournaments in the current campaign.
Emma Raducanu from Great Britain will not compete in her final two events this season due to a health issue she has been fighting in recent days.
The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but chose to travel back to recover ahead of launching plans for the 2026 season.
These plans will involve trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering for the upcoming season.
The tennis professional had her blood pressure taken while playing the initial match against Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She needed once more a doctor's assessment at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
Her movement was noticeably restricted in the final set against Zhu because of the lower back problem that has been a concern during parts of the season.
These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the world's top 30 after a long gap since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
Raducanu had three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month.
The player achieved 28 victories this year and made it to the semi-final round in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of a premier WTA event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament prior to a loss in a three-set match to Pegula, ranked fourth.
Her coach was Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig taking over ahead of the US Open.
The original arrangement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was for the remainder of the year but the partnership will continue, with a training session scheduled late this year.
The athlete revealed that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
The player was close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati in August.
Roig joined her in New York, where she made the third stage then falling to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
