Palestinian-American Youth Released Following Nine-Month Period in Israel's Detention

An American-Palestinian adolescent having endured a nine-month period in Israeli detention absent formal charges has been freed.

Mohammed Ibrahim was 15 during his detention in February throughout the West Bank territory, where he was visiting on holiday from Florida under suspicion of rock throwing at Jewish settlers, which he previously denied.

United States authorities expressed satisfaction with the teenager's freedom.

US officials said it would continue to offer diplomatic assistance to Mohammed's family.

Several congressional representatives had signed a letter to US authorities and the administration, requesting additional efforts to release him.

Mohammed's parent, a father-of-four managing a frozen treats business in Florida, had earlier stated his son only confessed to throwing stones after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen or communicated with his son since February, and only heard about his son's condition via legal paperwork.

He stayed without charge in Ofer prison throughout the occupied territory.
