Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Tylenol Makers Over Autism Allegations

Courtroom Proceedings
Ken Paxton, a Trump ally seeking election to US Senate, claimed the drug companies of withholding safety concerns of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the producers of Tylenol, claiming the companies withheld potential risks that the medication created to children's neurological development.

The lawsuit follows four weeks after Donald Trump promoted an unproven link between consuming acetaminophen - referred to as paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism in children.

The attorney general is taking legal action against J&J, which once produced the medication, the exclusive pain medication recommended for pregnant women, and the current manufacturer, which presently makes it.

In a official comment, he stated they "misled consumers by profiting off of pain and pushing pills regardless of the risks."

The manufacturer says there is no credible evidence connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These corporations lied for decades, deliberately risking millions to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

The company stated officially that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the well-being of American women and children."

On its website, the company also stated it had "consistently assessed the applicable studies and there is insufficient valid information that shows a proven link between taking acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations representing medical professionals and healthcare providers concur.

ACOG has declared paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is among limited choices for women during pregnancy to treat discomfort and elevated temperature, which can create significant medical dangers if ignored.

"In over twenty years of studies on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has successfully concluded that the usage of acetaminophen in any period of pregnancy causes brain development issues in children," the organization said.

The court filing mentions latest statements from the Trump administration in arguing the drug is potentially dangerous.

Recently, the former president raised alarms from public health officials when he told pregnant women to "fight like hell" not to consume Tylenol when ill.

Federal regulators then released a statement that medical professionals should consider limiting the usage of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in young ones has remains unverified.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who supervises the FDA, had vowed in spring to undertake "a massive testing and research effort" that would determine the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a matter of months.

But experts advised that discovering a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of genetic and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism is a type of permanent neurological difference and condition that affects how persons perceive and interact with the environment, and is diagnosed using medical professional evaluations.

In his court filing, the attorney general - a Trump ally who is seeking federal office - asserts Kenvue and J&J "willfully ignored and sought to suppress the science" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action attempts to require the companies "eliminate any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is reliable for pregnant women.

The court case parallels the complaints of a assembly of parents of children with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who took legal action against the makers of Tylenol in 2022.

Judicial authorities threw out the case, declaring studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was not conclusive.
