In the dying moments, pure elation broke out for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane represented the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Stark Contrast in Experience

On the home bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a one-time trainer at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Despite late Chelsea pressure, a second goal seemed to be escaping them, with Cole Palmer unable to get a touch in front of goal.
